There are typically two types: passive and active network threats. Passive network threats are activities such as wiretapping and idle scans that are designed to intercept traffic traveling through the network. Active network threats include activities such as denial of services (DoS) and SQL injection attacks where the attacker attempts to execute commands to disrupt the network’s normal operations.
